New York: In a bid to prioritise cost control, Pentagon has recently ramped up efforts to have a fleet of low cost AI powered drones to help navigation systems in the Air Force. The plan is to add 1000 such drones to the Air fleet of the U.S. Air Force.
According to the Fox News, this comes as part of the Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) program that has an allocated budget of $6 billion. The drones according to the report will be deployed alongside human-piloted jets and will have full weapons capabilities alongside acting as a cover and an escort.
This initiative by the Pentagon has seen top companies take up the challenge are in a race against each other to acquire the CCA deals. Firms like Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, General Atomics and Anduril Industries are all reportedly vying their chances of sealing the deal and becoming the sole manufacturer of these drones.
